Regional Envirothon
Year
2010 Rules
1. The
Orange/Osceola/Seminole Regional Envirothon competition will consist of five
events – Aquatics, Soils, Wildlife, Forestry, and Current Environmental
Issues. The Year 2010 current environmental issue will be "Salt &
Fresh Water Estuaries"
2. Students
must be registered in grades 9-12 for the current school year to compete in an
Envirothon competition.
3. Teams
will consist of five members from the same school and/or organization /
association. Schools may enter more than one team, no more than six (6).
4. Teams
must be accompanied by an adult advisor/teacher.
There should be at least one adult chaperon for every three teams
participating in the Envirothon. Advisors and chaperons will accompany their
teams to the testing stations but cannot offer assistance in answering test
questions or tasks.
5. Team
advisors will be responsible to assure that team members display proper conduct
during the competition and at the host facility.
Participants are not allowed to pick flowers or otherwise destroy
property at Leu Gardens. If
participants finish the test early, they should not be disruptive but should
just sit down and talk quietly to fellow team members.
6. Snuff,
tobacco, drugs and alcohol are NOT permitted during any part of the
competition. Rules applicable to the
host facility, Harry P. Leu Gardens, will be adhered to.
7. Students
are NOT permitted to bring electronic
devices into Leu Gardens during the competition; this includes cell phones, I pods, MP3 players, etc. Such
devices need to be secured in your transportation vehicle or left at home or
school.
8. Transportation
will be the responsibility of each participating team.
9. The
competition will be conducted by cooperating environmental agencies. The local
Soil and Water Conservation District will be the recipient of all communication
from the State and National Envirothon committees.
An Appeals Committee will be established by the Planning Committee prior
to the start of the competition.
10. Judges decisions
are FINAL on all events. Tie
breaker procedures will be determined before competition begins.
11. Winner of the
competition will be determined by the highest cumulative total points from the
five test stations. All ties must be
broken to decide the winner of the competition.
12. Each County may
send one winning team to the Florida State Envirothon competition, providing
that team has competed against at least one other team from at least one
different organization within the same county.
13. If a winning team
opts not to attend the state or national competition, the team with the next
highest cumulative score is eligible. The
team advancing to the Florida State Envirothon must be made of the same team
members that won the regional competition.
14. No books, notes,
information or instructional material may be taken into Leu Gardens or used at
the testing stations. Only material
given out at the testing station may be used to assist in answering test
questions.
15. No backpacks are to
be taken into Leu Gardens.
16. The Regional
Envirothon Committee will provide resource materials for advisors entering a
team in a regional competition. The
Florida Envirothon Committee will provide resource materials for advisors of
each team entered in the state competition.

18. All participating
team members and adult advisor/teachers must wear their Envirothon T-shirts at
Leu Gardens the day of the event. Shirts
will be provided to advisor/teachers the morning of the event, or you may pick
up the t-shirts prior to the contest date. A
date for pick up will be announced closer to the event.
